Things I consulted this weekend that weren’t the robots or the algorithms
by Cody Robinson
The creamy shepherd’s avocado on my artisan bread,
The blue dragonfly,
The green dragonfly,
The joey in the pouch,
The joey big enough to follow its mother and not be in the pouch anymore,
The hand-drawn map that is water damaged from my last stay,
The monstera with the largest fenestrations overlooking the cabin desk
“Froggie” – a local of 28 years,
The vegan cheese with the shea butter in it (wtf),
The vegan cheese without the shea butter but with the dill (yum),
The blades of grass I stared at for an endless amount of time,
The sweat soaking my body urging me to jump into a body of water to cool off,
The creek under the bridge,
Pebble pond upstream,
Pebble pond downstream,
The rays of sunlight coming through the forest canopy,
Michelle who got kicked out after making a scene and being a menace,
The frog/toad in the toilets,
The redback spider on my picnic blanket,
The baby snake I gave way to,
The chef at Friday pizza night who also couldn’t find the Southern Cross with me,
The kangaroo family outside my cabin window this morning,
The eco village staff cum family,
My last edition Frankie magazine,
The wrong turn I took that added an hour to my trip but let me know there’s an avocado festival in Blackbutt,
The staghorns,
The white communal leather lounge chair overlooking one of the 28 dams,
The perfect looking flower I spotted on the way back from the camp kitchen,
The local instrumental band playing Irish bangers at the café out of joy and goodwill,
Heated Rivalry episodes 2 and 3,
Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind by Shunryu Suzuki,
The yellow leaf, the red tinged leaf and the fluro green leaf,
The millipede,
The driver flashing their lights to let me know to slow down because there was a cow on the road ahead,
My cuddle pillow,
My dream space,
My breathe,
The vibrations of my feet walking on the earth,
Country,
The bunya tree painted on the bunya tree offering festival notice that I found in real life,
The familiar hum of the pedestal fan,
The camper who when I apologised for laughing too much said “we need more of that”,
The kookaburra’s,
The red, green and black ants,
The 11.30pm kangaroos having a snooze on the path to the toilet (thought they were nocturnal but alas),
The various butterfly beauties fluttering around at the creek,
My picnic blanket,
My carabiner,
The magical tree trunk that looks like a vulva at the creek,
The devoted dad who is currently houseless and going through the family court
The bubbles in the creek,
The mountains,
The clouds,
The one permitted dog (support dog) resting it’s head on a comfy pillow,
The giant uprooted bamboo clump with the dirt int
The toddler who enthusiastically said hello to me when I was leaving the café,
The lizard sunbathing on the rocks,
My body,
Myself.
